Evelyn L. Leggott

Evelyn L. Leggott, age 97 of Elwood, passed away September 28, 2013 at the Elwood Care Center. Evelyn was born August 10, 1916 at Gosper County, Nebraska to Fred and Nettie (Cook) Walston. Their home was in the middle of what became Johnson Lake. She attended a rural grade school and graduated from Elwood High School 1935. On July 18, 1941, Evelyn married Vaugn Leggott. Their union was blessed with 3 daughters, Karen (John) Swedberg, Jo (David) Faux and Cyrese (Paul) Lingard. Evelyn attended Kearney State College and went on to teach school for 4 years. Evelyn’s faith was very important to her, and she accepted Christ as her personal Savior on March 11, 1934. She, Vaugn, Karen and Jo were all charter members of the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington. She was active in her church, and taught Sunday school for many years. She also was in Tops and Gideons together with Vaugn, 4-H, and Home Builders and several other neighborhood clubs. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid gardener. Evelyn especially loved growing flowers and was even able to continue her hobby at the Elwood Care Center. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Vaugn in 2006; her parents; and her 3 siblings, Kenneth and Gene Walston and sister, Beulah Sharp. Survivors include her 3 daughters- Karen (John) Swedberg of Brazil, S.A., Jo (David) Faux of Hermiston, OR, Cyrese (Paul) Lingard of Boise, ID, 9 grandsons; 4 great grandsons; 1 great granddaughter; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Doris Baisinger from Kenesaw; 6 nieces and 2 nephews. A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington.
