Lorene E. Biesterfeld, age 85 of Cozad passed away July 22, 2013 at the Cozad Hospital. Lorene was born January 11, 1928 at Wilton, ND to Iver and Nettie (Brown) Erickson. She attended rural school at Painted Woods in Wilton. On December 24, 1944 Lorene married Leo Biesterfeld. Leo served in WWII and after his discharge they farmed in the Baldwin area. The couple moved twice between North Dakota and Nebraska and finally settled in Cozad in 1964. In the early years of their marriage, Lorene worked at several cafes in the Bismark area. They would eventually have 6 children, and Lorene lovingly cared for them all. When the kids were older, she worked at Nebraska Plastics and later in housekeeping at the Cozad Hospital. She enjoyed helping others, cooking, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, sewing, gardening, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading and dancing, but most of all, spending time with her family. Lorene is survived by her children Joyce (Jim) Campbell of Cozad, Janice (Larry) Werner of Cozad, Dennis Biesterfeld of Cozad, Roger (Ramona) Biesterfeld of Auburn, Debbie (Larry) Tvrdy of Cozad; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Doris Binsfeld of MN; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; son Rodney in 1973; brother Melvin; and sister Delores “Toots”. A memorial has been established in her memory and online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 27, 2013 at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Jech and Ken Pitkin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Cozad Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday July 26, 2013 at Berryman’s Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
