Donna Hohnstein, age 88 of Cozad, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Cozad Community Hospital. Donna was born May 10, 1925 at Exeter, NE to Armin and Edith (Whitlock) Rauscher. At an early age, Donna went to live with Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Whitlock, who was a brother of her mother, Edith. The family resided in Sutton before moving to Harvard, where Donna graduated from high school in 1943. Following graduation, Donna worked at the Harvard Air Base until she was accepted into the Army Nurse Cadets. Donna took her nursing training at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings for 2 years. Donna married Clinton Hohnstein at Harvard, NE on September 22, 1946. The couple moved to Cozad in June of 1947 and has resided there since. Donna served as a book keeper for Zook""s Welding for a number of years before retiring in 1985. Donna was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling, Cozad High School sports and Nebraska Cornhusker football games. Donna also liked to bowl, play golf and especially enjoyed Florida winters. Donna was a long-time member of the Cozad United Methodist Church, the Cozad Country Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Cozad Community Hospital Board for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald and her step-father, Richard Balduff. Survivors include her husband, Clinton Hohnstein of Cozad; her son, James Hohnstein of Moore Haven, FL; granddaughter, Lisa (Russell) Wenk of Litchfield Park, AZ; great grandson, Graden Wenk of Litchfield Park, AZ; sister, Geraldine Moore of Hemet, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Marge Hohnstein and Mae Morgan both of Hastings; a special friend, Sheryl Tatum of Ft. Myers, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Cozad United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association or Donor""s Choice in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
