George Parks

George Parks, age 76 of Cozad, passed away March 17, 2013 at the Cozad Community Hospital. George was born March 6, 1957 at Norton, KS to Rex and Caroline (Moss) Parks. He attended school in Cambridge, NE and Phillipsburg, KS. George served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958 where he worked as a printer. Following his discharge, George married LaVonne Brown on July 12, 1959 at Cambridge. George began work for the Cambridge Clarion Newspaper before moving to Cozad in 1961, where he worked for the Cozad Local Newspaper. George was later employed with the Tri-City Tribune for over 20 years. He also worked at Carland, H & H Auto and later, Monroe Automotive, retiring in 1999. Following his ""retirement,""� George worked part-time for Advanced Auto in Lexington. George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad. He was a past member of the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250, the Eagles Club, the Lions Club, the Cozad Jaycees and the V.F.W., Post #4. George served as a volunteer for the Cozad Fire Department and was a member of many car clubs in the area. George enjoyed working on and restoring old cars. He attended many swap meets, car shows and loved going to the car races. The best moments in George""s life were made with his friends and family. George was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and a sister. Survivors include his wife, LaVonne Parks of Cozad; son, Michael Parks of Kearney; 2 daughters, Cheryl (Joel) Canas and Susan (Jerry) Thurn all of Cozad; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Lewis (Irma) of McCook; sister, Beveline Bevins of Kansas; and many other relatives and friends A memorial has been established in his memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church in Cozad. Burial with military honors will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
