Elvira Barela, age 70 of Cozad, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Cozad. Elvira was born March 31, 1942 at Big Springs, Texas to Natividad and Vicenta (Jaure) Barela. She attended school in the Big Springs area. Following her education, Elvira moved with her dad to Cozad where she lived and raised her family. Elvira never married, but maintained a committed relationship with Juan Sanchez, their companionship spanned over 45 years. Elvira""s life was blessed with 4 children, Elva, Armando, Joe ""Chief""� and Jesse. While in Cozad, Elvira worked at Cozad Floral, cleaned houses and did some work briefly as a CNA at SouthView Manor. Elvira was a dedicated and loving mother. She worked hard, and always sought to instill that same work ethic in all of her children. She always enjoyed growing plants, which was something she did a lot of while working at Cozad Floral. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents; companion Juan Sanchez; daughter, Elva; 2 sons, Armando & Joe; 5 brothers, Martin, Lorenzo, Juan, Manuel and Oswaldo; and a sister, Gloria Cavitt. Survivors include her son, Jesse Barela of Morrison, CO; 3 grandchildren, Jade, Christian and Tyler; 1 great grandchild, Aaron; along with many other relatives and friends. Graveside inurnment services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cozad Cemetery with Father Don O""Brien officiating.
