Mamie B. Perry

August 29, 1920 — February 14, 2013

Mamie Bernice (Griffith) Perry, 92, of Kearney, formerly of Cozad, passed away February 14, 2013 at St. John""s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. Mamie was born in Roten Valley in Custer County, Nebraska to Herbert and Bessie (Anderson) Griffith on August 29, 1920. She was raised on a farm in Roten Valley, and received her education in the area. On August 27, 1939, she married Allen Perry in Cozad, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Cozad their entire married lives, which spanned 71 years. While in Cozad, Mamie worked at the Cozad Telephone Company for almost 30 years, beginning her career as a switchboard operator. Following the death of her husband, Allen, in October of 2010, she eventually moved to Kearney to be closer to her daughter. Mamie and Allen grew many exquisite flower gardens over the years. They also loved canning, and often put up peaches, pears, chokecherry jam and green beans. Mamie always seemed to put great effort into everything she did. She was a terrific cook, and did beautiful embroidery work. It was often jokingly said that after Mamie became a Perry, she had to learn to play cards and drink her coffee black. God was always a focal point in Mamie""s life; she was proud to be a long time member of the Church of Christ in Cozad. Mamie is survived by her son, James Perry and his wife Jan of Georgetown, TX; daughter, Jane Perry of Kearney; 4 grandchildren, Todd, Darin, Erin, and Nichole. 9 great grandchildren, Tanner and Sydney; Madeleine and Olivia; Chelsea, Nathan, and Abigail, and Jack and Max and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Mamie was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Arlene; brothers Howard and Earl; and sisters Mabel and Hazel. Services will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Cozad with Pastors Mike Dennis and Roger Sloan officiating. A private family burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
