September 12, 1943 — January 30, 2013

Lois Bernice Houser, age 69 of Elwood, passed away Wednesday January 30, 2013 at the Lexington Regional Medical Center in Lexington. Lois was born September 12, 1943 at the Jameson home in Thedford, Nebraska to Kenneth and Margaret (Warner) Piel. She attended grade school in Thedford. In 1957, Lois and her mother moved to North Platte, where she graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1962. Lois married William Houser on October 14, 1962 at Sutherland. Their union was blessed with 3 sons, William Jr. ""Rusty,"" James LaMonte ""Monty,"" and Derrick ""Casey."" Lois was employed with the Elwood Bulletin and later the Elwood Care Home, where she served as the Activities Director for 17 years. Lois enjoyed her hobbies, which included crafts, knitting and making greeting cards. Lois had a very tough difficult upbringing, and often did without. As a result she became an incredible saver as an adult, from food to sentimental belongings. She was an immensely loving person who always found fulfillment in helping others, from her family, to the folks that she cared for at the nursing home. She enjoyed having fun and joking around with her family and friends, and her house always seemed filled with laughter for some reason or another. She made a lasting impact on the lives of her husband of over 50 years, sons, grandchildren and friends, and will be deeply missed. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Nathan; a daughter-in-law, Karla; and a brother, Jim Knapton. Survivors include her husband, William Houser of Elwood; 3 sons, William C. ""Rusty"" (Tina) Houser, Jr. of Wilcox, James LaMonte ""Monty"" (Peg) Houser of Alma, Derrick ""Casey"" Houser of Elwood; 11 grandchildren, Karrissa, William C. ""CJ"" Houser, III, Ryne, Wilie, Mari, Jasmine, Zander, Kayla, Tyler, Riley and Morgan; 2 great grandchildren, Cayden and Mitchell; her many good friends from South Padre Island, TX; and many other relatives and friends.
