DONOVAN ""BILL""� MALCOM Donovan ""Bill""� Malcom, age 81, of Gulf Shores, AL, affectionately known as ""Uncle Dud"", passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Columbus, GA. Mr. Malcom was born on February 8, 1931, in Milford, NE, son of the late Charles N. Malcom and Edith Reynolds Malcom. He proudly served in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War, respectively. In Europe he was a flight mechanic on the crew of the Commander In Chief of the servicemen in Europe. In Vietnam he flew on the C-47 ""Puff the Magic Dragon"", receiving two Distinguished Flying Crosses, National Air Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and other decorations. Following his service, he owned and operated Malcom Flying Service in Mankato, KS, serving agriculture by air for 35 years. He was a NASCAR enthusiast, a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and an avid watcher of FOX News. During retirement he enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his grandchildren. He a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, the Kansas Aviation Association, the Nebraska Aviation and Trade Association and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Bill is survived by his wife, Sally Walton Malcom; two daughters, Julie Malcom Alexander of Phenix City, AL and Angela Malcom LeFranc and husband Rene of Phenix City, AL; four grandchildren, Kyle Alexander, Danielle McDonald and husband Bryan, and Gabrielle and Sean Lefranc; great-grandchild, Hailey McDonald; much extended family and many caring friends. A memorial service will be held at the Callaway Community Center in Callaway, Nebraska on Saturday, October 6th at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, NE. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Kyle Alexander, Sean Lefranc, Bryan McDonald, Brennon Malcom, Donovan Walton, David Walton, and B.J. Malcom.
