LeRoy C. Beans, age 86 of Cozad, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Gothenburg. Leroy was born October 3, 1927, to Erwin E. and Clara L. (Frazier) Beans at Cozad. LeRoy graduated from Cozad High School in 1944. LeRoy farmed until entering the U.S. Army in November of 1950, serving in Europe during the Korean War. LeRoy returned to Cozad where he married Norma J. Griffis on February 22, 1953. The couple made their home in Cozad. LeRoy began working for a carpenter. He then entered into business with Jerry Arnold. LeRoy later started Beans Builders, building many homes in Cozad and Dawson County. He built several duplexes which he rented out. LeRoy developed a community amongst the renters. LeRoy had a passion for gardening, especially vegetables and raspberries. He was a man of many talents, and was always ready to share those talents and help others. LeRoy was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church. LeRoy was preceded in death by parents; and 2 sisters, Lorrianne Higgins and Gloralie Vikre. Survivors include his wife Norma of Cozad; 2 children Glen Beans of Lincoln and Carol (Brad) Larvick of South Sioux City, NE; 4 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 3 siblings, Kenneth (Angie) Beans, Dale Beans and Kelva (Gib) Devine. Services will be Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Cozad United Methodist Church in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at Cottonwood Cemetery northwest of Cozad. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home Chapel. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
