Gertrud Harvill, age 77, of Cozad, passed away December 29, 2013 at Cozad Community Hospital. She was born September 8, 1936 at Bad Wilsnach, Germany to Werner and Ellie (Reschardskowski) Gericke. Gertrud grew up and attended school in Berlin, Germany. She was united in marriage to Larry Harvill on November 28, 1963. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived in Omaha for a number of years before moving to Cozad in 1978. Gertrud worked at Monroe Auto and Nebraska Plastics along with being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of the Cozad United Methodist Church where she was fondly known as the “cookie lady”, Order of the Eastern Star, mentor for Team-Mates program, and board member of Epworth Village in York, NE. There wasn’t a person or animal that Gertrud didn’t love. Those that will cherish her life are her husband; Larry of Cozad, children; Gabriele (Bill) Graham of Pampa, TX, David (Ruth) Harvill of Cozad, and Karen (Wes) Harmoney of Amherst, NE, grandchildren; Kelly, Rebeccah, Victoria, and Katelyn, step-grandchildren; Holly, Shawn, and Kasey, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Otto Gericke, and son, Christian. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Cozad United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm at the Berryman Funeral Home. Her casket will not be open at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Epworth Village in York. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
