Annemarie Fox, age 82 of Cozad, passed away January 3, 2014 at Golden Living Care Center in Cozad. Annemarie was born November 23, 1931 at Lohnweiler, Germany to Rudolf and Anna Maria (Weber) Schneider. Annemarie grew up in Germany during WWII. The war impacted her life in a very real way. She witnessed planes dropping bombs, and had several friends that were casualties of the fighting. As a young girl, she worked in a textile factory in Germany and eventually moved to Australia and lived in the Blue Mountains for 4 years. She worked as a waitress at a resort hotel and as part of the kitchen staff. She also worked in textile factories in Australia. She then went back to Germany for a while. On June 26, 1965, Annemarie moved to the United States where she worked as a hostess at the Pawnee Hotel in North Platte, Nebraska. Annemarie met Ray Fox in June of 1965 while he was building a house for her sister in Brady, Nebraska. Annemarie and Ray married one month later and made their home in Cozad. They were married for 31 years. Annemarie worked with her good friend Elsa at a hotel. She worked in the kitchen and held that job for about a year. She eventually went to work for Monroe Auto on the main line. Annemarie worked for Monroe Auto for 4 years. She and her husband Ray opened a liquor store, Ray's Liquor. Annemarie worked there until they sold the store. After they sold the store, the couple enjoyed wintering in Texas for a number of years. Annemarie took wonderful care of everything she had. She was exceptionally clean and took great pride in taking care of her home, vehicles, garden, etc. Elsa, her neighbor, became a wonderful friend to her over the years. After the loss of Annemarie's husband, they came to look after one another. In a sense, they were like family to one another. Annemarie was extremely tidy and clean and had countless tricks on how to clean certain household things. Her pots and pans looked like the day she bought them in the 1960's. Her hardworking nature obviously translated to how she kept her home. Annemarie enjoyed dancing with her husband. She loved to garden, planting and caring for flowers. She was a wonderful baker, especially pretzels. Annemarie was an intelligent, trustworthy and courageous person, and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Ray Fox in 1997; brother Rudy Schneider; nephew Gary Pratt. Survivors include 2 brothers, Erich Schneider and Karl Schneider, both of Germany; 2 sisters, Sonja (Ted) Daigger of North Platte and Irene (Doug Pratt) of Germany; many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. A private family inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska. Memorial book signing will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
