Geraldine H. Helmuth Vokal, age 85 of Cozad, passed away April 21, 2015 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Geraldine was born February 3, 1930 at Lexington, Nebraska to Virgil and Lucille (Edwards) Robinson. She graduated from Callaway High School in 1948 with a teaching certificate. She taught country school in the Redfern Table area. On June 4, 1950, Geraldine married Paul Helmuth in EUB Church on Redfern Table. Together they farmed on Redfern Table. To this union, 3 children were born, Cheryll, Jeanne, and Mitch. Geraldine moved to Cozad in 1970 and worked at Southview Manor Nursing Home until marrying Jim Vokal in 1976. The couple resided in Omaha where she worked at Joe Tess Restaurant and operated a daycare in her home. Geraldine moved back to Cozad in 2005, following Jim's passing. She was an exceptional giver during the holidays and for birthdays. She was thoughtful and respectful towards her family and others. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafting with her grandchildren, and giving away her hand made items. Geraldine loved her cat Missy and dog Tubby. Survivors include her 3 children, Cheryll (Loren) Peterson of Arnold, Jeanne (Jim Metzger) Malcom of Cozad and Mitch (Shelley) Helmuth of Cozad; 8 grandchildren, James Peterson of Grand Island, Cory (Mindy) Peterson of Arnold, Jason (Deb) Malcom of Cozad, Dain Malcom of Cozad, Amanda Metzger-Barningham of Tampa, FL, Dustin (Miranda) Helmuth of Grand Island, Jacey (Eric) Holmberg of Arnold and Ashley Pell of Arnold; 11 great grandchildren, Joshua Peterson, Maddox Malcom, Larkyn Malcom, Ethan Malcom, Addison Barningham, Brandon Peterson, Logan Peterson, Devin Peterson, Kylie Helmuth, Emma Helmuth and Haley Helmuth; 1 great-great granddaughter, Tenliegh Malcom; and numerous other family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and her beloved dog, Tubby. A memorial has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Tallin Cemetery northeast of Gothenburg. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
