Alene O. Foster was born June 28, 1918 in Verden, Oklahoma to Bradley and Verna (Vineyard) Sweeney, and left this world on August 4, 2015 from Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 97. She moved to Dawson County when she was 6 years old. She received her primary education in rural Dawson County and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1936. Following graduation she worked at JC Penney's and The Dime Store in Cozad. On February 23, 1938 she married Jesse Franklin Foster in Norton, Kansas. She and her husband moved to Wichita, Kansas to work at Boeing Defense Plant where she was a "Rosey The Riveter." They returned to farm east of Cozad from 1948 to 1983. She spent her retirement years in Kearney and Lincoln. She was a member of the Cozad Christian Church and several Church Organizations. In addition to her husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ray, Howard, Ernie and Harold; son-in-law, Duane Simmons; and great grandson, Brett Foster. She is lovingly survived by daughter, Billie Simmons of Orange, CA; son James (Joan) Foster of Merna, NE; daughter, Ginger (J.D.) Ayres of Lincoln, NE; 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Mike, Andrew, Joshua and Zachary; 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bill (Betty) Sweeney and Paul (LaDonna) Sweeney; sister, Helen (Robert) Tanquary; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Church of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfunealhome.com. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad Christian Church with Pastor Jim Henry officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
