Wendell Atchison, age 88 of Cozad passed away August 21, 2015 at the Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living. Wendell was a lifelong resident of Cozad growing up on the Homestead Farm south of Cozad. He was born in Lexington, Nebraska to Paul and Mildred (Neil) Atchison, on December 15th, 1926. He attended and graduated from Cozad High School. He went on to receive his degree in Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. There he met and married Margaret Lois Norton on April 12, 1949. Their union was blessed with 3 sons, Donn, Paul, and Bill. Wendell returned home to the family farm after College and continued to work and run the Homestead, with his brother Bob, until his retirement in 2007. During those years he and Lois enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. For several years they also traveled to Scottsdale, Arizona for a few months in the winter to enjoy the warmer weather and golf. . Wendell’s many adventures in hunting and fishing took him all over the World. Wendell’s full life also included the Methodist Church, Rotary, 2 terms as County Commissioner, Dawson County Feeders Assn., T-Bone Club, President of ESU 10, and an intricate member of the committee that developed and founded Camp Comeca. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, his son Paul, and brother Bob. He is survived by his sons, Donn (Cyndi), of York, and Bill (Carmen) of Cozad; sister-in-law Mary Louise, sister-in-law Grace and husband David Evans, and sister-in-law Patsy; 9 grandchildren, Casey, Corey, Rustin, Sara, Andy. Chad, McKenzie, Graham, and Ashley; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and his hunting and fishing buddies. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
