L. Dean Herrington

L. Dean Herrington passed away October 4, 2015 at his home in Elwood at the age of 80. Dean was born in Kansas on October 10, 1934 to Robert and Halsey (Kirkpatrick) Herrington. He graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1953. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1966, Dean married Mary Bell Rhodes. The couple moved to Willow Island in 1973. He was a partner at H & H Auto in Cozad with his brother Kirk, and then started his own business in Lexington, Lex Truck and Auto. Dean enjoyed hunting and raised various types of animals. He will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brother, Kirk Herrington and daughter, Joy Horse. Survivors include his daughters, Pam (Huy Nguyen) Fisher of Del Rio, TX, Tricia (Jim) Stull of Staplehurst, Julie Herrington of Harlingen, TX, Deana (Carl) Bohne of Beaver Crossing; sons, David Herrington of Kearney and Joe Herrington of Lexington; grandchildren, Kasey, Zachary, Brittany, Robert, A.J. and Lee; 6 great grandchildren; nieces, Gayla (Don) Malcom of Cozad and Deb (Pat) Leahy of Cozad; sister-in-law, Carolyn Herrington of Cozad; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established in his memory for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
