Marjorie A. Brown of Cozad passed away November 1, 2015 at Golden Living Center at the age of 84. Marjorie was born November 6, 1930 south of Gothenburg, Nebraska to Elmer and Margaret (Barnes) Ellison. She went to country school north of Cozad and graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1948. She received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Kearney State Teachers College. Marjorie taught at North Platte, Gothenburg, Minden, Sumner and at 3 Dawson County Rural Schools for a total of 19 years. She assisted with Special Education in Cozad Public Schools for 7 years. On June 2, 1958, Marjorie married Lyle T. Brown at the Sumner Evangelical Free Church in Sumner, Nebraska. She and Lyle farmed from 1958 to 1973 until they moved to Cozad. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Elizabeth Annette Brown, in 1969. Marjorie worked in laundry at Cozad Community Hospital for 12 years until her retirement in March of 2002. She was a faithful and devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Marjorie taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years, and served on the church board. In March of 1999, she received the Distinguished Service Award through the Nazarene World Mission Society. She enjoyed crafts, listening to books on tape, and sending care packages to family and friends in the military and to special college students. Marjorie was a kind and giving person. Family, friends and her faith were her main priority. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have her in their lives. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle in 1997; and son-in-law, Greg in 2011. Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth A. Smith of Overland Park, KS; sister, Marilyn R. Ellison of Cozad; sister-in-law, Lola Brown of AZ; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials are suggested to the First Church of the Nazarene in Cozad. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorial services will be Friday, November 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Rodney Mohler officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
