LaVon D. Beans, age 82 of Cozad, passed away February 4, 2016, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. LaVon was born October 19, 1933, at Cozad, Nebraska to WW and Elta (Griffith) Beckley. She graduated from Cozad High School with the Class of 1951. LaVon worked at Westman's Dairy and 1st National Bank in Cozad. She married Richard Beans on November 25, 1951. They moved to the family homestead where they farmed for many years. LaVon was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and volunteered for Red Cross and Hospice. She was also a member of TOPS for over 25 years. LaVon enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Maxcine (Jerry) Nash, Verla Jean (Stan) Hergenrader Woodward; brother, Leon (Sharon) Myer. Survivors include her husband, Richard of Cozad; 3 children, Terry (Sara) Beans of Lexington, Sheri Beans of Temple, TX and Steve (Dawn) Beans of Cozad; 2 grandchildren, Travis Beans of Fremont and Morgan Smock of Cozad; 1 great grandson, Jacob Beans of Fremont; in-law's, Floyd (Pat) Beans of Chandler, AZ, Norman (Marilyn) Beans of Cozad, Arlene Beans of Mesa, AZ and Cecil Woodward of Callaway; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
