Charles C. 'Chuck' Hartman of Cozad, passed away February 19, 2016 at Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 78. Chuck was born April 26, 1937 at Sutherland, Nebraska to Walter and Opal (Beaird) Hartman. He graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1955. Chuck earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Economics from Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1959. On August 30, 1959, he married DeEtta Stahl. Chuck farmed at Paxton for eight years before moving to Cozad where he opened the Production Credit Office. In March, 1975, he was named Vice President of First Bank and Trust Co. in Cozad. Chuck enjoyed a long and successful 30 year career at First Bank and Trust before his retirement in April, 2005. Chuck was a member of the American Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250 and former member of the Cozad Jaycees and Cozad Ambassadors. He was on the Board of Directors for Cozad Development Corporation and served as treasurer for many years. In 1993, Chuck served as President of the Cozad Area Chamber of Commerce and held former offices with the Cozad Board of Public Works, American Lutheran Church Council and American Lutheran Church Foundation Board. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Mike Stahl. Survivors include his wife, DeEtta of Cozad; sons, Doug (Sharon) Hartman of Columbus and Mitch (Sandy) Hartman of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jeff (Ashley) Hartman of Lincoln, Melissa Hartman of Lincoln, Beth (James) Goodenberger of Columbus, OH, Derek (Sarah) Hartman of Lincoln and Susan Hartman (fiancé Phillip Halsted) of Omaha; great grandson, Jamie Goodenberger of Columbus, OH; sisters, Maxine (Bob) Perlinger of Paxton and Shirley (Allen) Tompkins of Ogallala; brother in law and sister in law Verlyn and Donna Stahl of Paxton; nephew, Steve Stahl of North Platte; many other nieces, nephews and numerous friends, including very special friends, Gary and Carol Morrow of Cozad, Bill and Sandy Gettman of Lincoln and Jerry Sharp of Cozad. Services will be Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Cozad with Pastor Mike Parsh officiating. Burial will be at the Paxton Cemetery. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. The casket will be closed.
