James R. 'Jim' Ackerman, age 88 of Cozad, passed away March 17, 2016 at Cozad Community Hospital. Jim was born September 9, 1927 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Herman and Hazel (Shelly) Ackerman. He graduated from Grand Island High School. Following graduation, Jim entered the U.S. Navy and was based in Guam. Jim married Marianne Lindstedt in 1946. The couple were blessed with 2 sons. Marianne passed away in 2004. In November of 2006, Jim married Donna Houser. Jim worked for Central Nebraska Public Power Hydro Plant for over 44 years. Jim had a fascination for airplanes and power parachutes. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Jim was an avid Husker and Bronco fan and even had the opportunity to attend a Super Bowl. He and his buddies enjoyed watching boxing matches in North Platte. Jim had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. Jim's most treasured times were spent with family. He would travel anywhere to watch his grandchildren play high school sports. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marianne; son, Rex and brother, Don Ackerman. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Donna of Cozad; son, Terry Ackerman (Sharon Deal) of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Ackerman of Fremont; grandchildren, Thad (Dalia) Ackerman of Cozad, Tara (Brian) Ackerman of Chicago, Melissa (Bernard) Mahoney of Fremont, Malee (Felipe) Zardo of Sao Paulo, Brazil; great-grandchildren, Cole, Dillon, Maya, Olivia, Macy and Enzo; step-sons, Tom (Michele) Houser of Kennard, Tracy Houser of Omaha and Jim (Cheryl) Houser of Blair; step grandchildren, Matt, Zack, Jami, Luke, Valerie and Alison and 2 step great-grandchildren, Serenity and Reiden. Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or Kearney Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Cozad with Pastor Mike Parsh officiating. Burial will follow at Gothenburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
