Ruby Spradlin passed away Friday, March 25, 2016, at Crestview Care Center in Milford, Nebraska, where she had been a resident since August of 2010. She was 89 years old. Ruby Spradlin was born July 16, 1926 at Cozad, Nebraska to James and Josephine (Powers) Frew, the 5th child of this union. She attended school in Cozad graduating with the Cozad High School Class of 1944. After graduation, she worked at Gambles in Cozad until she married Earl (Tiny) Spradlin on May 20, 1945. They spent 56 years together living on various farms in the Cozad vicinity. To this union was born two children, Sandra and Russell. Ruby was a baptized member of the Church of Christ and later became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Cozad where she taught Sunday School, was a member of W.E.L.C.A., served on the church council, and secretary of St. John's Chapter of Lutheran Brotherhood. Ruby was a people person, enjoyed keeping track of class members, friends, and family. She helped plan most of the "Class of 44" class reunions. For a number of years she was employed by JC Penney and was the substitute Post-mistress at the Willow Island Post Office. Both of these positions brought smiles to her face and happiness to her heart, as she was able to enjoy friends both old and new. Her family and church were very important parts of her life. She is survived by her two children, Sandra Sheets of Milford, NE and Russell (Karon) Spradlin of Cozad: 5 grandchildren, Shawna (Kelly) Fredericksen of Milford, Tami (Mike) Walkowiak of Milford, Amber (Adelmo) Guidarelli of Astoria, NY, Boni (David) Truax of Katy, TX, Ross (Amanda) Spradlin of rural Cozad; 9 great-grandchildren, Kirk and Sean Fredericksen, Treven, Tanner, and Treyson Walkowiak, Evalyn and Grace Truax and Rieker and Mollie Spradlin; 2 sister-in-laws, Helen and Violet Spradlin and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (Tiny) Spradlin; son-in-law, Loyal (Dobe) Sheets; her parents and parent-in laws; her sister Jo Johns; brother Jim Frew; an infant sister and brother Sadie and David; sister and brother in-law, Evelyn and Walt Pritchard; brother- in-laws, Bernard and Edwin Spradlin; nephews, Randy Frew, Jim Johns, Dwight Pritchard, Steven Pritchard, and Dennis Spradlin; and a niece Carolle Maumaw. Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cozad with Kathy Gundell officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
