Horst Tobaben of Eustis passed away July 16, 2016 at the Elwood Care Center at the age of 87. Horst was born on March 13, 1929 at Hamburg, Germany to Fredrick Boehm and Emma Wenck. Horst made the journey to Ellis Island with his mother in 1932 when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Eustis High School. Horst joined the US Air Force in 1948. On October 13, 1953, he married Marilyn Poppe at the Salem Church southeast Eustis. The couple made their home on a farm site south of Eustis until 1961, when they moved to Eustis. In 1961, Horst went to work at Monroe Auto in Cozad until he retired after 32 years. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm and having coffee with friends. He and Marilyn loved to travel after their retirement. Horst was actively involved with the Ostomy Association in Kearney. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis, the American Legion and was a Past Chaplain at the American Legion Post in Eustis. Horst was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Survivors include his daughter, Lori (Kevin) Welsch of Leigh; 3 sons, David (Kim) of Gothenburg, Doug (Sue) of Murray and Wendell (Deborah) of Cozad; 8 grandchildren, Andrea, Rachael, Hillary, Matthew, Joshua, Jeremy, Stephanie and Kristin; and 12 great grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with Kathy Gundell, PMA officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 8 with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad, which is in charge of arrangements.
