Alice M. Dorsey

Alice M. Dorsey of Cozad passed away peacefully in Lincoln on September 27, 2016 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Alice was born April 18, 1938 at Cozad, Nebraska to William Franklin Earl Brecks and Sophie (Ostendorf) Brecks. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1956. Following graduation, she married Dean Dorsey and to this union, two children were born, Nicki and Dierk. In 1965, Alice, her husband and family worked hard to create the Tri-City Tribune, a biweekly newspaper based in Cozad. The publication was very quickly known for general excellence across the state of Nebraska and was one of the first newspapers in the area to use offset press. Alice is remembered by former staff for executing her role as co-owner and corporate secretary with competence and stability. Working since her teens, her career also included long time service at Service Drug, Dawson County Implement, Staton Insurance, Garner Realty and the Strawberry Patch in Cozad. Alice became well known for her professional skills and personal integrity while serving as Executive Assistant to six different plant managers at Tenneco Automotive Monroe Cozad. She served and held offices in many community organizations including Cozad and Nebraska Mrs. Jaycees, Cozad Golf Club, United Way, World Entertainment Series, Election Committee, and various committees at the First United Methodist Church. She was an active member of PEO Chapter IB. Most of all, Alice was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and attending as many of their events as possible. She had many dear friends with whom over the years, she loved traveling, golfing, playing tennis, walking, playing cards and just spending time over coffee. Alice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nicki and Lance Paulsen of Lincoln; and her son Dierk Dorsey and Jamie Case of Omaha; Grandchildren Dane and Cindy Paulsen of Lincoln, Carley and Eric Pearce of Roanoke, Texas; Dylan and Staci Paulsen of Lincoln, Devin Paulsen of Dallas, Texas, Jordan and Andi Dorsey of Omaha and Raymond Dorsey of Omaha. Great grandchildren Tatum, Truman, Titus and Tasia Paulsen, Hope Paulsen all of Lincoln and Elle and Alivia Dorsey of Omaha. Also surviving are her sisters and spouses Ethel and Don Fox, Glenda and Bob Martin; and brothers Earl ‘Bud’ Brecks, Jim and Myong Brecks and step sister Rosemary Hofferber. Alice is survived by nieces and nephews and so many friends whom she loved like family. She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-sister Cindy and a sister-in-law Bonnie Brecks. A Praise and Worship Service will be held at the Cozad United Methodist Church on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor David Cumming of New Life Church of North Platte will be leading the service. Cremation was chosen and a private family inurnment will be held at the Cozad Cemetery prior to service. A memorial book signing will be held in the Berryman Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, October 6 from 1-8 p.m. Alice’s family will be present from 6-8 p.m. As per Alice’s specific wishes, a memorial fund has been established in her name for private designations. Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
