Phyllis 'Joyce' Jensen

August 26, 1934 — October 17, 2016

Phyllis 'Joyce' Jensen of Cozad passed away October 17, 2016 at Lexington, Nebraska at the age of 82. Phyllis was born August 26, 1934 in Cozad, Nebraska to Chris C. and Margaret Ann (Kandler) Jensen. She attended Cozad Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1952. Joyce was married to Daniel Webster of Crown Point, New York from 1955 to 1980. Joyce was of the Christian faith and was baptized in the First United Methodist Church in Cozad. Her faith was a very important earthly lifeline. She also had a fascination with the life and writings of Kahlil Gibran and found peace and enlightenment in his words. Joyce had a variety of personal interests, which included calligraphy, graphology, and genealogy. She found volunteering in medical facilities to be very rewarding. She worked primarily as an administrative assistant for five years at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming in special and social services as well as for insurance and real estate businesses, among a variety of other endeavors. Joyce lived in ten different states, and for five years she resided in Woodbridge and Felixstowe, Suffolk County, England, where both of her children were born. What she learned in England was refreshing politeness from the people and simplicity without forfeiting quality. She also learned that there is no place like home in the United States of America. States in which Joyce lived, other than Nebraska, were: Oregon, Wyoming, Upstate New York, Maryland, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Florida, Mississippi, Delaware and northeast Tennessee. Tennessee was probably her favorite state of all. In 2007, Joyce became legally blind and learned new ways of incorporating the necessary and enjoyable into her life. She was extremely brave in this new endeavor and faced this challenge with much courage. Joyce's cherished and beloved survivors include, her loving daughter, Michelle Ann (Webster) McKenzie, and Michelle's wonderful husband, James Michael McKenzie of Lawrenceville, GA; her accomplished son, Daniel Webster II, of Tampa, FL; her thoughtful and gifted granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Kaufman, and Elizabeth's kind husband, Jack Andrew Rodber of Nottingham, England; her empathetic and kind-hearted step-grandson, Ryan Joseph McKenzie of Atlanta, GA; and her compassionate and devoted caregiver, Candi Hasbrouck, who was like a granddaughter to her. Other survivors include three of Joyce's brothers, Gene Dallas Jensen of Dover, DE, Gale Victor Jensen of Gothenburg, NE and Lyle Eldon Jensen and Lyle's wife, Darlene of Dunsmuir, CA. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Chris C. Jensen in 1935; her mother, Margaret Ann (Kandler) Jensen, in 1954; her brother, Russell Dean Jensen; her sisters-in-law, Mary (Shepley) Jensen, Velma (Philpot) Jensen, and Norma (Wilburn) Jensen; and her nephew, Lynn Jensen. Memorial donations may be made to: Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 4600 Valley Road, Suite 100, Lincoln, NE 68510 Website: ncbvi.nebraska.gov. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Joyce requested cremation. There will be no service. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
