Charles 'Dick' Reier

Charles ‘Dick’ Reier of Cozad passed away October 31, 2016 at Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 82. Dick was born May 15, 1934 in Sumner, Nebraska to Charles and Maurine (Dickerson) Reier. Dick graduated from Sumner High School in 1951. Soon after he moved to Nebraska City to work construction. On January 16, 1955 Dick married Farrell Smidt. The couple made their home near Cozad. To this union, 4 children were born, Tonia, James, Stacy, and KaDon. Dick served in the U.S Army. Following his discharge, he was employed by Monroe Auto until his retirement. He loved to spend time tending to his family farm near Cozad and was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was an avid Husker football and volleyball fan, and enjoyed playing pitch and dominos. His family was his pride and joy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Those who knew him best will always remember him for his ornery sense of humor and his huge heart for others, he will be deeply missed. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter; sister, Kay Reier; and brother, John Reier. Survivors include his children, James (Nancy) Reier of Kearney, Stacy (Mike) Hickenbottom of Cozad, and KaDon (Tammy) Reier of Florida; Grandchildren, Taya (Joey) Moore of Kearney, Jana (Chris) Jensen of Omaha, Aaron (Brittany) Reier of GA, Gavyn Reier of Kearney, Kaleb Hickenbottom Cozad, Mallory (Ryan) Gibreal of Lincoln, Jordan Hickenbottom of Lincoln, and Shanna (Eric) Steinberg of FL; great grandson, Weston; great granddaughters, Fynn and Believe; brothers, Bob (Dottie) Reier of Lincoln, Jerry (Vicky) Reier of CO; sisters, Nancy (Bill) Bowie of WI, and Joyce (Denny) Anderson of AR; sister-in-law, Peg Reier of Broken Bow; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, northeast of Cozad, with Kathy Gundell, PMA officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 with family receiving friends from 5 to 6 at Berryman Funeral Home.
