Dale E. Dodson of Funk, Nebraska passed away November 12, 2016 at Holdrege, Nebraska at the age of 65. Dale was born July 29, 1951 at Holdrege, Nebraska to Raymond and Ruth (Gardine) Dodson. He attended school in Holdrege and graduated with the class of 1970. Dale worked with his father learning how to operate dirt moving equipment during and after his high school years until entering the US Army in 1971. Dale served for 2 years in Alaska running equipment with the Civil Engineers Department. After leaving the Army he returned to Holdrege and started a business moving dirt and digging basements. He loved moving dirt and taking out trees and took great pride in his job. Dale ended his long career as a Construction Foreman for Kearney County Roads Department at Minden, Nebraska. He married Wanda Hoke at Holdrege, Nebraska in 2002. Dale was a proud father and grandfather. He made sure they learned how to work hard and be accountable for everything they did. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and giving them rides in the golf cart. Dale attended as many of their activities as he could, racing, soccer and wrestling. He spent his free time restoring old cars and tractors. Dale was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Funk; 2 sons, Kelly Dodson of Axtell and Greg (Wendy) Dodson of Beaver Crossing; 2 daughters, Kara (Jason) Van Surksum of Omaha and Jodi Busk of Salt Lake City, UT; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; step-children, Lea (Keith) Jauken of Funk and Dawn (Chad) Stulir of CO; 3 siblings, Joan (Jerry) Slater, Jerry (Connie) Dodson and Linda (Larry) Lahowetz, all of Holdrege; 2 uncles, Jack Dodson of ID and Dick (Barb) Dodson of Holdrege; aunt, Betty (Leland) Steinkruger of Franklin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial has been established in his name. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Cremation was chosen. Inurnment with military honors will be at Moses Hill Cemetery. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the church. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
