Bill W. Sweeney of Cozad passed away December 27, 2016 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 93. Bill was born December 4, 1923 in Verden, Oklahoma to Bradley and Verna (Vinyard) Sweeney. The family moved to Nebraska when he was a year old. Bill was raised on a farm east of Cozad. He graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1941. Bill served in WWII in the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre. On September 15, 1946 , he married Betty Thompson. Bill and Betty lived and worked in North Platte and later moved to Lexington. Bill worked at Ayer's Clothiers until 1948 when they moved to Cozad. Bill farmed in the Cozad area from 1948 until he retired in 1993. He continued to run the combine for harvest until he was 90 years old. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray, Ernie, Howard and Harold; sister, Alene Foster and his son-in-law, Neal Stiles. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Betty Sweeney of Cozad; daughters, JenaLu (Mike) Keller, Julie Stiles and Karen (Marc) Arnold, all of Cozad; grandchildren, Mandi Keller of Omaha, Marti (Dion) Julian of Colorado Springs, CO, Philip (Krissy) Stiles of Omaha and Toby Arnold of Cozad; great grandchildren, Adee Arnold, Evangeline and Simeon Stiles; his granddogs; sister, Helen (Bob) Tanquary of Camarillo, CA; brother, Paul (LaDonna) Sweeney of Sun City, AZ; sister-in-law, Beverly Sweeney of Cozad; many nieces, nephews, his golf course buddies and friends. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Cozad Christian Church. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Cozad Christian Church with Pastor John States officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to the service. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
