Sharon K. Griffis

October 20, 1945 — April 21, 2017

Sharon Kay Griffis, age 71, passed away peacefully at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Nebraska on April 21, 2017. All who knew her cared very deeply for her always smiling and gentle personality. Those who knew her really, really well, knew she had an ornery streak a mile wide! She loved all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even those she did not give birth to. She took great delight in visits from her family and friends through the past few years. Sharon was born in Wallace, NE on October 20, 1945. She was united in marriage on June 2, 1962 to Johnny F. Griffis, Sr. They had two children: Carleen Griffis-Hatas and Johnny F. Griffis, Jr. While raising their children, they took the opportunity to open their loving home to many families in crisis. This included numerous foster children, friends and family members. She opened her heart and her wealth of wisdom to anyone in need and judged no one. She was honest and hard-working and steadfast in her beliefs. She took pride in every job she held from working with my Dad in the alfalfa fields for many years, working at Baldwins, Orthmans and loved the interaction with the many customers and co-workers at I-80 Pit Stop in Gothenburg. She enjoyed nature walks and teaching her children about all nature had to offer. She listened, comforted and healed with all she had to give. She loved to travel and spend time with all of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Katie Parker; her husband, Johnny Griffis, Sr.; sisters, Barbara, Margaret, Shirley and Gladys; brothers Gerald, Wayne and Terry. Survivors include her sister, Lorena Nokes of Houston, TX; daughter, Carleen (Victor Rackliff) Hatas of Cozad; son, Johnny (Dusty) Griffis, Jr. of Cozad; grandchildren, John Klein, Jay (Megan) Griffis, Marshall Griffis, Clayton Vickers, Johnnie Griffis, Sebastian (Makayla) Griffis, Devin (Gaby) Wilson and Chase (Jazmin) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Ella Wilson (Ella's Mother Alex Collins), Bentley Griffis, Nakita Griffis, Malia Wilson and Huxley Griffis; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. She loved genuinely and deeply. She was a blessing and continues to bless everyone's lives she touched. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James McCrickard officiating. Cremation was chosen.
