Maria A. Romero

Maria A. 'Toni' Romero of Cozad passed away May 4, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 85. Toni was born June 28, 1931 at Las Vegas, New Mexico to Macedonio and Francis (Aranda) Maestas. She attended school at Cozad. Toni married Bennie Romero at Lexington, Nebraska. She worked various jobs, but most importantly was a homemaker and raised five beautiful children. Toni loved traveling and going to the casinos. She also enjoyed shopping watching scary movies, music and dancing. Toni's most treasured times were spent with her family and making authentic Mexican meals for them. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bonnie Maestas and daughter, Mary Romero. Toni is lovingly survived by her sister, Alice Maestas of Las Vegas, NM; brother, Joe L. Maestas of Cozad; her children, Eugene (Sandra) Romero of Thornton, CO, Alex (Connie) Romero of Cozad, Tommy (Merry) Romero of Cozad, Alice (Ralph) Dean of Cozad and Sylvia (Bryan) Reeves of Cozad; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Don O'Brien as celebrant. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home.
