Maude Darling

Edith Maude Darling of Cozad passed away May 20, 2017 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney at the age of 104. Maude born January 22, 1913 in Cozad, Nebraska to Harry and Della Marie (Reeder) Chapin. She was one of nine children and the only surviving sibling. Maude started Kindergarten in 1918 and graduated in 1931. She lived in Cozad until July 2009 when she moved to Kearney. Maude first lived at Homestead Assisted Living before moving to Mother Hull Home in July of 2010. Maude was united in marriage to Glenn Darling on April 3, 1934. To this union two children were born, Rodney Darling and Connie Darling Ourada. Glenn farmed north of Cozad but they lived in town. She enjoyed her life as a mom and grandma and will be remembered for her cinnamon rolls and the many quilts she made. Maude worked at Culligan for two years and Cozad High School library from 1967 to 1971. Her positive attitude for life and faith in God kept her young at 104 years. Her saying was to only remember the good stuff in life. She said as she got older her "forgetter was getting better than her rememberer". She is survived by her daughter Connie (Ron) Ourada of Kearney; 7 grandchildren, Shawn Darling of Cozad, Renee Greenlee of Lexington; Greg Hubbs of Billings, MT, Jeff Ourada and Kevin Ourada of Lincoln, Dave Ourada of Amherst and Brenda Ourada of Sioux Falls, SD; 20 great grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; her son Rodney in 2006; and 8 siblings. Memorials are suggested to Cozad Methodist Church or Kearney First United Methodist Church. Services will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Melody Adams of Kearney officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 8 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home.
