Hattie M. Skala

Hattie Mae Skala, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on May 29, 2017 at the Tabitha Seagren House in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born January 20, 1928 at Burwell, Nebraska, to John and Frances Bruha. She attended school at Eureka District #32 near Burwell. On May 14, 1951, she married Rudy Skala at Ord, Nebraska. In 1955, they moved to Cozad, Nebraska where Rudy owned and operated Rudy’s Standard Oil Station and later the Interstate 80 Standard Station. Hattie was a stay-at-home mother and later cleaned houses, babysat, and was the attendance record keeper at church. When she fully retired, she volunteered at the Cozad Methodist Thrift Shop and the Cozad Grand Generation Senior Center. For several years, Hattie baked kolaches for family and friends. Hattie’s love was all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with those special little ones she took care of during her many years of commitment to the Cozad Methodist Church nursery. With this commitment, she was baptized in the Methodist Faith on February 19, 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn (David) Yeutter of Laramie, Wyoming, Joan (Terry) Keller of Cozad, Nebraska, and Cheryl Hamlin and Brad Aksamit of Lincoln, Nebraska; a son, Gary Skala and his partner Wayne Pendley of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Tammy Keller, Rachel (Doug) Fox-Deen, Stefanie (Andy) Bednar, Chris (Kelsey) Yeutter, and Nathan (Heidi Herfel) Hamlin; 15 great-grandchildren, Dakota Richards, Tylee Keller, Shayla, Tyler and Ashaley Fox, Madison and Brooklynn Deen, Jaydan and Emma Yeutter, Lainey, Jillian and Blake Bednar, Brianna, Bianca and Carletta Herfel. She was proceeded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Joyce Skala, her parents & 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Visitation will be Friday, June 30, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Berryman Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 10:00 AM at the Cozad United Methodist Church. Interment of ashes will be at Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with The Cozad Grand Generation Center and The Lexington Assisted Living Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
