Jack L. Griffis

Jack L. Griffis passed away June 12, 2017 at his home in Cozad at the age of 76.  Jack was born December 3, 1940 at Willow Island, Nebraska to Syrenus S. and Edna V. (Marlin) Griffis.  Jack married Mary Ella Gentry on July 20, 1961.  This union of 50 years was blessed with 6 children.  The family lived in Gothenburg until 1991, when they moved to Cozad.  Jack was a mechanic and driver for Dan's Sanitation, and worked at Cozad Alfalfa for many years.  He was in a band in his younger days.  He played the guitar and loved listening to music.  Jack enjoyed fishing, watching the history channel, reading, comedy and going to the rodeo with his granddaughter, Jessica.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ella in 2011; and 2 brothers, John and Jim Griffis.  Survivors include his children, Kay Griffis of North Platte, Donna (Keven) Stuck of Powell, WY, Mark (Barb) Griffis of Gothenburg, Jerry Griffis of Kearney, Catherine Sherbenaut of Broken Bow, Mathew Griffis of Cozad; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sisters, Bonnie Freeman of OK, Eunice Moore of Broken Bow, Sharon Friesenborg of Gothenburg and Viola Larsen of Lochbuie, CO.  A special thank you to John Griffis and Dusty Griffis and Carleen Griffis for everything they have done for Jack and the family.  Memorials are suggested to the family in his name for later designation.  Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com.  Services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home.
