Violet M. Spradlin of Cozad passed away July 23, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Lexington, Nebraska at the age of 94. Violet was born March 8, 1923 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Ray and Sylvia (Hill) Hughes. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1941. Following graduation, Violet taught at school in rural Dawson and Hall counties. On January 2, 1946 she married Edwin Spradlin at Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm north of Cozad before moving to a farm site north of Darr where they lived and farmed nearly their entire married lives. Violet was a devoted wife and mother and loved helping out on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and other needle work. Violet and Ed loved to winter in Arizona which they did routinely for 26 years. Violet was a member of the Cozad Hospital Auxiliary, Busy Thimble Extension Club, VFW Auxiliary, Church Circle and a 40 year member at St. John Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis; and 3 brothers. Survivors include her son, Darold and wife Peg Spradlin of Cozad; daughter, Diana and husband Delbert Puls of Murray, NE; grandchildren, Dustin Puls of Omaha, Danelle and husband Blair Higgins of Omaha, Brian and wife Kiffany Spradlin of Kearney, Jennifer and husband Aaron Huff of Lincoln; 3 great grandsons; 2 sisters, Dorothy Knight of Chapman and Jewell Deichmann of Central City; sister-in-law, Helen Spradlin of Gothenburg; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with Kathy Gundell PMA officiating. Burial will be at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home.
