Kay M. Osborn

November 7, 1939 — October 4, 2017

Kay Marie Osborn a lifetime Cozad resident passed away October 4, 2017 at Cozad Community Hospital, she was 77 years old. Kay was born to Pearl (Neuens) and Floyd Sculley on November 7, 1939. At age 3, Kay was diagnosed with polio. Her adolescent years were spent going through several surgeries to give her the ability to walk. Despite her battle with polio she always faced challenges with bravery and spunk, she lived her life to the fullest. Kay graduated high school in 1957 from Cozad High School. In 1959, she married Arlyn Osborn, at Christ the King Catholic Church. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on October 3rd. They had three children Kevin, Kimberly, and Kraig. Kay was a true farmer’s wife. She raised chickens, milked cows, maintained a garden, and various other chores around the farm. Her favorite hobby was cooking and canning in her kitchen. When hired men would come to help with harvest or cattle work, Kay made sure they had good meal on the table. She loved to keep her cellar full of canned foods for the long winter months. She canned beef and various home grown fruits and vegetables every year. Her grandkids and great-grandkids always knew that Grandma Kay had a full cookie jar on the counter. She truly cherished her family and friends and you never went hungry when Kay was cooking. During her younger years, she worked as a secretary for Trusdale & Trusdale Law Office in Cozad. In 1983, she started working at the Farm Service Agency in Lexington, NE. Being a farm wife, Kay had a special knack for helping farmers through the complicated government paperwork. Farmers all over the county knew to see Kay when they had a question. While working in town, Kay continued to keep up with various tasks on the farm. Kay loved to go fishing, playing the slots and watching her sons and grandsons race at the local track. In the early 2000s, Kay was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She continued to work the best she could for several more years until she retired from the Farm Agency in 2005. Kay was a member of the Does at Cozad Elks Lodge #2250 and a lifetime member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
