Walter Allen DeWitt passed away on December 24, 2017 at his home in Cozad, Nebraska at the age of 74. He was born July 19, 1943 at Gothenburg, Nebraska, the older of two sons, to Alvor and Betty (Brooks) DeWitt. Walt graduated from Cozad High School where he was a three-sport athlete for the four years and was selected to the all-state football team. He played in the 1961 Shrine Bowl. After graduation Walt joined the U.S. Marines and served in the Pacific and the naval base in Kittery, Maine. Walt married Winnie Richards on December 30, 1964. They had two sons, Wade and Eric DeWitt. Walt cared for his grandparents in Cozad until the family relocated to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he worked as a golf course superintendent. After his divorce he moved to Susanville, California, and continued to work as a golf course superintendent. Walt also worked as a farm hand, a prison guard, a ditch rider, and pheasant distributer. Walt was an avid hunter, expert marksman, competitive pool, golf, and card player. He was a loyal friend, a loving father and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his sons, Wade DeWitt of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Eric DeWitt and wife Julie of Portland, Oregon, a granddaughter, Emma DeWitt of Portland, Oregon, and brother, Brad DeWitt and wife Natalie of Huntington Beach, California.
