Cathy A. Walters of Cozad passed away January 3, 2018 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 82. Cathy was born September 19, 1935 at the family farm north of Cozad, Nebraska to Lester and Ruby (O'Kane) Adle. Cathy loved growing up on the farm and was happy doing chores and being her dad's helping hand. She graduated from Gothenburg High School and went on to attend Kearney State College where she received her teaching degree. On May 4, 1956, Cathy married Kennith Walters at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad. The couple were blessed with four children and celebrated 61 years of marriage. Cathy taught at a country school, was a bookkeeper for several businesses, and was a Para at Cozad Public Schools after her retirement. She served as a city council member for four years before being elected Mayor of Cozad, a position she held for 16 years. Cathy was a faithful and devoted member of the Catholic Church. She served as treasurer of the Altar Society, taught catechism, and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed taking gambling trips, was a member of the Cozad DOES Drove #177, but her most treasured times were spent with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Kenny Walters of Cozad; sons, Kenny Walters Jr. of Cozad and Randy Walters of Omaha; daughters, Cindy Wells and husband Joe of Grand Island and Patty Seevers and husband Tony of Kearney; grandchildren, Kevin Walters, Lyndee Mitchell, Jeff Walters and Steven Walters, all of Texas, Dylan Munson of Kearney, Shane Walters, Logan Walters and Dustin Walters, all of Waverly, Brooks Wells and Kirby Wells of Grand Island, Jordan Seevers of Missouri, and Emily Seevers of Kearney; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Jim Adle and wife Diann of Cozad; her beloved fur baby, Gigi; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father Don O'Brien as celebrant. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Friday at 7 p.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church with Rev. Matt Koperski. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 at Christ the King Catholic Church.
