Bill Geiger

May 16, 1933 — February 8, 2019

Bill Geiger, age 85, passed away February 8, 2019 quietly at home with his wife, whom he always referred to as the love of his life. Bill was born May 16, 1933 in Cozad, Nebraska to Willhelm and Louise (Unkel) Geiger. He graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1951. Bill’s love of farming began at an early age helping his parents on the family farm. He was drafted into the United States Army toward the end of the Korean Conflict and served his time stationed in Japan. Bill returned home to farming and found the car that sparked his passion for speed, his 55 Chevy. He got his pilots license and loved flying, especially when he was able to take his nieces and nephews on trips. He loved spending time with his friends and you could often find them at the tennis court, golf course, bowling ally, playing cards, or meeting at the Elks. But every day had to begin at the Red Rooster Café. Bill met Valerie DeBoer and they were married on August 5, 1978. He adopted her two sons, Jeremy and Mike, and a few years later Will and Beth completed their family, he was an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather. Family was everything to Bill and he loved adding the DeBoer bunch. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl Geiger and Ralph (Elaine) Geiger; and grandson, Matthew Geiger. Survivors include his wife, Valerie Geiger of Cozad; children, Jeremy (Tammi) Geiger of CO, Michael (Kelly) Geiger of Cozad, Will (Carrie) Geiger of Cozad, and Beth (Kevin) Bergstrom of MD; grandchildren, Courtney, Garrit, Alec, Caleb (Kassie), Cameron, Connor, Kade Mason, Emalyn and Mallory; great grandchild, Blake; brother, Fred (Eileen) Geiger of IA; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. A memorial has been established in his name. Family will designate to local organizations at a later date. Services will be Monday, February 11, 2019 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating. Private family burial is at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 with family present from 5 to 7 at Berryman Funeral Home.
