Candelaria Hernandez of Cozad, passed away in Kearney, NE on May 16, 2023 at the age of 77.
She was born on February 2, 1946 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Juana Rodriguez de Hernandez and Domingo Hernandez.
During her time in Mexico, she would enter the United States for work. On one beautiful day she met her beloved husband Marcos Hernandez at the park. They were married on October 21, 1968, in El Paso, Texas. Five children were blessed to this union: Lusia, Jesse, Ramon, Marcos, and David. The family then moved to Cozad, Nebraska.
Like many women of her generation, she was a home maker and mother. Candy was a fiercely independent, strong-willed woman who raised her children to value hard work, family, and fresh tortillas. Her homemade tortillas were second to none. No matter if you were family or a friend visiting her home, you were always invited to eat and she never took “NO” for an answer. Candy devoted her time, energy and cooking for those she loved. There wasn’t anything she would not do to support those around her.
Candelaria is survived by all her children, Lusia (Marty) Munster of Cozad, NE, Jesse (Yesenia) Hernandez of Omaha, NE, Ramon Hernandez of Cozad, NE, Marcos Hernandez of Cozad, NE, and David (Andrea) Hernandez of Cozad, NE. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We truly mourn the loss of such a beautiful and special lady. We are grateful for the time we had with her and for all the ways she blessed our lives. She will be greatly missed.
