Darlene R. Hawke

Darlene R. Hawke of Cozad passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living at the age of 82.  Darlene was born November 3, 1937 at Cozad, Nebraska to Henry and Mildred (Schilreff) Schneider. She graduated from Cozad High School. Her mother passed at an early age and Darlene had to raise her younger siblings. On January 28, 1956 she married Richard Hawke and moved to Texas. Their union was blessed with a son, Jim. Darlene moved back to Cozad in 1958. She worked at Claire's Liquor and then Monroe Auto, where she retired in 1998. Darlene loved to work in her garden, receiving yard of the month many times. Her home was very well kept, and was proud of it and everything she had. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and horse shoe pitching. Family was everything to Darlene. She loved her great grandsons, dogs, and traveled to South Dakota every chance she could to visit her sister Betty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim; sister, Betty Putnam; brother, Harold Schneider; nephew, Scott Putnam and niece, Lori Walker.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Amber (Jeff) Richardson of Kearney; great grandsons, Ryder and Rhett; brothers, Hank (Shirley) Schneider of Cozad and Duke (Sally) Schneider of Bennington; brother-in-law, Richard Putnam of South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
