David Patrick Harvill

David Patrick Harvill, 58 of Cozad, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on December 27, 2022. David was born March 11, 1964 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Larry and Gertrud (Gericke) Harvill. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska when David was two months old. There he attended Jefferson Elementary, Will Cather Elementary and Millard South Junior High. At age 15, the family moved to Cozad where he attended Cozad Junior and Senior High and graduated with the class of 1982. He then attended Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska and studied auto mechanics. David moved back to Cozad to be closer to his family following his studies. He worked at Cozad Alfalfa as a mill operator for several years; the majority of his career, he worked at Nebraska Plastics as an operator and quality control technician. He also worked at Orthman Manufacturing in Lexington. David had a private used car lot in Cozad where he worked as a mechanic and purchased used vehicles that he repaired and sold. Later in life he worked at Walmart in Lexington as maintenance and at Cozad Pizza Hut at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to Ruth Dewitt on August 31, 1990 in Cozad. They had two daughters, Rebeccah “Beccah” and Katelyn “Katie”. David loved the Huskers, working on any car, fishing, camping, Star Trek, John Wayne and the Minnesota Vikings. David was a member of Cozad United Methodist Church, Golden Rod Classic Car Club in Cozad and he was a past Special Olympics Coach. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going on trips. He most enjoyed meeting new people and no one remained a stranger very long. David loved his family more than anything else in the world. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth; daughters Rebeccah (Kyle) Buell and their daughter Brianna, Katelyn Harvill and Arlene Nelson, all of Cozad; his father, Larry Harvill of Cozad; mother-in-law, Connie (Dewitt) Johnson of Cozad; sister Gabriele and husband Billy Graham, their son Kelly and wife Amber and their daughter Henley of Cozad, and sister Karen and her husband Wes Harmoney and their daughter Victoria of Amherst. David was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, Cleo and Hazel Harvill and Werner and Ellie Gericke; and brother, Christian Harvill. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Monday, January 2, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
