Dean Dale Buller passed away on October 31, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska at the age of 93. Dean was born January 15, 1931 in Henderson, Nebraska to Henry and Anna (Friesen) Buller.
He graduated from Hampton High School. He began his career as a farmer in Hampton. This is where he met Harriet Bacon, and they married on May 25, 1952. Through his partnership with Harriet of 66 years, they embraced all the wonderful aspects of Nebraska rural living and were blessed with three children: Jordan “Dyke”, Jack, and Julie.
In 1954 Dean was offered an opportunity to farm irrigated land in Cozad. While there, Harriet taught at several rural schools and then moved in to town to teach elementary school at North Grade School. In 1965, Dean and Harriet bought a farm just northeast of Cozad. They continued living there for the balance of their 66-year marriage, and Dean continued to live on the farm until May 2023. He then moved to Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living Home where he lived until his death.
There were many facets to Dean’s livelihood. He farmed corn and alfalfa, raised cattle and hogs, and bought livestock for F & S Sausage Company. All the while, he shared a passion for raising registered quarter horses with Harriet. This is where he inherited his life-long nickname, Cowboy.
Dean also had an extremely avid interest in creating farm structures and mechanical implements. His adept skill at welding as well as his creativity in using available tools made this possible. Many who know him can recount how he put a ladder into a loader to work at very high levels in building an indoor arena and a shop for his tractors. Being on a tractor was a very happy place for Dean.
He also had a lifelong passion for the New York Yankees, for whom all the Buller Brothers were named. His love of sports began in his youth when he played baseball and basketball. Later in life he took up golf, racquetball, and tennis. Of recent, he loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Nebraska Baseball, and Nebraska Volleyball.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and dear friend to many Cozadians.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet; his parents, his son Jordan “Dyke” Buller; brother, Howard Buller and his wife Elma; and sister, Eleanor Hatfield (Buller) and her husband Jim.
Survivors include son, Jack Buller and his wife Lori of Naperville, Illinois, daughter; Julie Buller of Beaufort, South Carolina; grandchildren, Hillary Buller, Jordi Buller and wife Maria, and their twin daughters, Alex and Maddy, and son, Eli; brothers, Lou Buller and wife Evelyn and Jim Buller and his wife Betty, many nieces and nephews, a very close friend, Barbara Jones and his beloved cat, Sandy.
