Douglas Ray Jensen, affectionately known as “Rock”, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was 71 years old. Born on December 16, 1952 in Cozad, Nebraska, Doug was a lifelong Cozad resident who held a deep love for his family, his friends and the Haymaker community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
A Cozad High School graduate, he furthered his education on a golf scholarship to McCook Junior College. His work ethic began early as a newspaper delivery boy and continued through summers with Walker Roofing in high school. Doug’s attention to detail distinguished him as a highly respected house painter and woodwork finisher in Cozad and the surrounding communities.
Doug’s greatest passion was golf. He thoroughly enjoyed his yearly golf trips to St. George with his friends. With quiet humility, he won or placed in countless tournaments throughout Nebraska. He also had a love for playing cards, shooting pool and listening to songs from his meticulously organized play lists. An avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, Doug closely followed team recruitment, preserving every newspaper article he could find.
His warmth and compassion were evident in his devotion to family. He relished family gatherings around Cozad, Omaha, and Colorado and was always eager to lend a helping hand with any task.
Although Doug was quiet and soft spoken, his acts of kindness and care for others spoke volumes. He may have lost the battle with dementia, but he has won our hearts forever.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Jensen and brother Dean Jensen (Margaret). Those left to cherish his memory include brother Roger Heidebrink of Gothenburg; brother Brad Jensen (Sandy) of Loveland CO; sister Rochelle Jung (Ralph) of Centennial CO; nine nieces and nephews; thirteen great nieces and nephews; one great, great nephew.
