Elizabeth Ione Galbreath

Elizabeth I. Galbreath passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024 at Emerald Care at the age of 89. Elizabeth was born in Phoenix Arizona August 28, 1935. Her early years were spent in Tempe, Arizona and North Platte, Nebraska. She graduated from North Platte Senior High School and went on to attend Blue Mountain College in Mississippi, graduating with a degree in English. She taught at Norup Middle School in Oak Park, Michigan for over 30 years. She was a voracious reader and collected hundreds of books, and was especially fond of Italian cookbooks. Some of her favorite memories were of her trips to Italy, attending cooking school with students from around the world. She continued her correspondence with many friends over the years and kept letters and cards from everyone. She was a prolific writer as well, keeping dozens of journals of both daily life and travels. The English teacher in her never retired though. She was known to correct the grammar of handwritten receipts and work orders with a red pencil!

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Dr Henderson Galbreath Sr and Mildred Galbreath, as well as her brothers, Jefferson Galbreath and Henderson Galbreath Jr. She is survived by her sister Hildy Jacobsen and sister-in-law Kathy Galbreath as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many lifelong friends, including Marlene, Leonette, Maria and Janet. A special thank you to neighbors Bill and Kathleen who helped both Elizabeth and her parents for many years.

The family also wishes to thank the caring staff of Emerald Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cozad, Nebraska and Dr Jack Cole for his kind attention in Elizabeth’s last weeks. A special debt of gratitude to the hospice workers who visited daily and were so attentive to her needs. Donations to hospice may be made in Elizabeth’s name to:
