A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel. It was Florence's wish to be cremated, and will be interred at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Emerald Care Nursing & Rehab or donor's choice.
Florence Irene Oliver of Cozad passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Emerald Care Nursing at the age of 89. Irene was born September 17, 1932 in Cozad, Nebraska to Lloyd and Florence (Glass) Griffith. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1950 and was employed at the Cozad Community Hospital for several years before attending nursing school in Omaha. Following her schooling, she returned to Cozad for 2 years. In 1963, she moved to California where she was employed at the Los Angeles County General Hospital. In 1967, she moved to Hawaii. Irene married Thomas Oliver in 1974 and the couple lived in Hawaii, Panama and California. She returned to Cozad in 2005 to be close to family. Irene enjoyed golfing and spending time with her family. She loved watching sports and was an avid Husker fan. She was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; brothers, David Griffith and his wife Dianne and LaVern Griffith; sisters, Jeanette Lauer and Dorothy Mangis and great nephew, Scott Lauer. Survivors include sister in law, Kathy Griffith of North Platte; brother in laws, Robert Lauer of Gothenburg and Gale Mangis of Salisbury, NC; nephews, Scott Mangis, Steve Lauer, Daniel Lauer, Phillip Griffith and Paul Griffith; nieces Deb Linn, Sherri Stewart, Terri Commins, Angela Mueting, Suzanne Smaltz, Lori Dale, Suzanne King and Marcia Harnly; and numerous other relatives and friends.
