George Eugene Johnson of Cozad passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 93. George was born September 28, 1927 to Albert and Hilma (Hallstrom) Johnson, the ninth child of ten. He was born in the sod house on the family farm, south of Brady, Nebraska. After his father passed away, the family moved to Brady. He graduated from Brady High School and enlisted in the US Army on September 26, 1946. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on September 29, 1949. On May 17, 1953, George married Dorothy Heller at the American Lutheran Church in Cozad. They raised their three daughters south of Cozad as a farming and ranching family. He enjoyed his crops and the cattle he raised. Never forgetting his childhood roaming the hills of Conroy Canyon with his siblings and helping his father with the farm work. He was a member of the VFW and American Lutheran Church. After Dorothy passed away in February of 2018, George remained on the farm until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; six of his sisters; one brother; son-in-laws, John Vance, Gregg Hecox and infant great grandson, Tristan Vance-Lacy. Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Ron) Arnold of Papillion, Margaret Vance of Kearney and Norma Hecox of Kearney; grandchildren, Keri (Efrain) Quintanilla of Papillion, Scott (Amy) Arnold of Lincoln, Stacie (Jon) Burnett of Kearney, Kylie Vance of Kearney, and Heather Hecox of Kearney; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Gavin and Nolan Quintanilla of Papillion, Ruby, Eva and Cade Arnold of Lincoln, Uriah Vance-Lacy and Weston Burnett, both of Kearney; brother, Arnold (Ruth) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Ilene Blattner of Cozad; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the family in his name for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Cremation was chosen. There will be no book signing. Private graveside services will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
