Geraldine Mitchell

Geraldine (Struempler) Mitchell, 83, recently of Stuarts Draft, VA, passed away on January 3, 2022.  She will be dearly missed and remembered with love.

Geraldine was born in Oconto, Nebraska, to Fritz and Minnie Struempler on November 30, 1938. She married Gary W. Mitchell, of Eustis, Nebraska, on December 27, 1959. She graduated from Cozad High School and received her RN from  Methodist School of Nursing and her BSN from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  She practiced as an RN in Omaha for over 30 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and Clarkson Hospital and with the Visiting Nurse Association.  She loved nursing and, in turn, was beloved by her patients.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; her children:  Shareene (John) Berti, Maureen (Mitch) Hammer, Daneene (Richard Mills) Mitchell, Steve (Amy) Mitchell, and Dawn (Joel) McCray; her grandchildren:  Peter (Becky)and Matt Berti, Lee Tolliver II, Rose (Sam) Burt, Lewis and Kelly Hammer, Emilie, Erin, and Jacob Mills, Abigail, Benjamin, and Luke Mitchell, and Nathan and Sarah McCray; her great grandchildren: Ellie and Jack Berti. She is survived by her siblings Ronald Struempler, Adele Chandler, and Elsie Cyriacks.

Funeral services will be held jointly for Geraldine and her husband, Gary,  on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Buffalo Lutheran Church, Lexington, NE at 11 a.m., Pastor Rasmussen officiating. Geraldine and Gary will be laid to rest at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Oconto, NE immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Shenandoah House in Fishersville, Va.
