Gordon L. Lindstedt

Gordon L. Lindstedt passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024, at his home in Cozad at the age of 87. He was born on September 18, 1937, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Conrad and Vernea (Nelson) Lindstedt. Gordon graduated from Cozad High School in 1955 and married Carolyn “Babe” Jensen on April 17, 1960.

Gordon began his career as a telephone lineman at Cozad Telephone Company in 1966, where he worked for 38 years and enjoyed mentoring his son Scott. He was also a dedicated member of the Cozad Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, serving as fire chief for 8 years. As a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge for 62 years, he was actively involved with the organization and the Elks National Foundation.

He was a long-time elder at the Cozad United Methodist Church, where he contributed to various committees and the board of trustees. Gordon also participated in community activities, including being an Eastward Councilman, running the Cozad Gun Club, and organizing the Elks Kids Trap Shoot. He taught hunter safety for boys and girls and coached his daughter Paige’s softball team.

Gordon was a jack of all trades, proficient in welding, mechanics, fabrication, and even scuba diving. His diverse interests and talents made him a remarkable figure in his community.

He was known to many as a gruff man, but those who truly knew him understood that beneath that exterior lay a kind and soft-hearted individual. Gordon was good to those who were good to him, showcasing a tenacious, steadfast, and resolute spirit throughout his life.

Gordon loved to spend early mornings at the blind having breakfast with his grandchildren Sydney and Jake. He enjoyed building airboats, attending events for his grandchildren, and sharing coffee breaks at the Grand Generation Center and drinks at the Elks Club. He also refurbished a John Deere tractor that his grandsons, Kaysen and Colton, cherished. He was his grandson Colton’s birthday buddy. Gordon will be remembered for his warm heart and dedication to family and community.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years Babe; and his brother Trent Lindstedt. Survivors include his son Scott (Tracy) Lindstedt of Cozad; daughter Paige Lindstedt of Lincoln; sisters in law, Pam Lindstedt of Omaha, Marlene Geiger of Cozad and Lona Jensen of Cozad; grandchildren, Sydney (Jon) Mapel of Cozad, Jake Lindstedt of Lincoln, Kaysen and Colton Lindstedt-Sweeney and Johanna (Jason) Gregory of Lincoln; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
