Gwen Ellen Deselms

Gwen Ellen Deselms of Elwood passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 at Ridgeway Senior Living in Lexington, Nebraska at the age of 93. Gwen was born October 3, 1928 in Elwood, Nebraska to John Ray and Elva Mae (Groshart) Nelson. She graduated from Elwood High School. Gwen taught at a country school. On October 8, 1950, she married Jim Deselms. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Becky, Laura and Penny. Gwen held various jobs and at the age of 70, retired from the Elwood Care Center. She then volunteered at the care center, food pantry and Legion Auxiliary. Gwen was a member of the Red Hat Society, and several card clubs. She was a long time member of the Elwood Christian Church, where she was known for her goodies and baking for the church bake sale. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and 2 daughters, Becky Prochnow and Penny Hill. Survivors include her daughter, Laura Sheldon of Lincoln; grandchildren, Vincent (Reagan) Avery, Jessica (Thomas) Yarmer, Shannon (Jeremy) Hickenbottom, Misty Strobel and James (Melanie) Sheldon; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the family in her name for later designation. Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathy Gundell officiating. Inurnment will follow at Elwood Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
