Harley M. Nelson, former Elwood resident, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Holms Lake Rehab and Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 79. Harley was born February 4, 1940 to Charles and Hattie (Gugat) Nelson and raised in Western, Saline County, Nebraska. He attended school in Western, Nebraska. Harley served in the Army National Guard. Harley married Sharon Jones on July 3, 1964 at Lexington, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Kristen and Stacey. Harley worked at Remmenga Drilling and retired as a combine mechanic from John Deere in Elwood, Nebraska. He loved working on combines and tinkering on anything Sharon had for him to do for her around the yard. Harley enjoyed going to tractor pulls and appreciated classic cars. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Stacey Nelson; brothers, Donald, Harold, Gene and Charley; and a sister, Leota "Bertha" Schropfer; and niece, Shari Westwood. Survivors include his daughter, Kristen Nelson of Holbrook; grandchildren, Cole Taylor of Arapahoe and Lora Taylor of Lincoln; nieces, Kathy Hudson, Judy Schweer, Debbie Theye, Tammy Hoffman, Janie Schropfer, Becky Whitney, Connie Nelson and Cindy Richard; and nephew, Tom Nelson; and many other relatives and extended family. Graveside services will be Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elwood Cemetery with Pastor Soonil Parks officiating. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
