Joan B. Hockley of Cozad passed away August 9, 2018 at Cozad Care Center at the age of 90. Joan was born August 3, 1928 on the Dillon Farm to Dana Bliss and Ella (Edwards) Dillon. The family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas after she graduated from high school. She attended Del Mar Junior College and met her husband, Calvin Hockley, while performing in an operetta. Joan and Cal were married on January 28, 1947. They were blessed with three children, Sandra, Mike and Sarah. In 1957, Joan and Cal moved their family to Cozad where they established their home. Joan was a devoted mother and attended all Cozad football games, home and away, and every activity her children were involved with. When her children were grown, Joan fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a retail owner. She and her friend Jean Hagadone opened a dress shop in downtown Cozad called The Looking Glass. When Jean moved away, Linda Toberer stepped in as co-owner. Joan was a faithful and devoted member of the Cozad United Methodist Church and active with Job's Daughters and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Colonel Dana B. Dillon and 3 Dillon uncles. Survivors include her husband, Cal Hockley of Cozad; her children, Sandra Hockley of Cozad, Mike Hockley and wife Kathy of Overland Park, KS and Sarah Hockley of Eustis; 3 grandchildren, Chris Hockley, Anne Crofford and Andrew Jensen; sister-in-law, Frances E. Dillon; 4 great grandchildren; and many Dillon cousins. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the Cozad United Methodist Church. Private family burial will be at Fairview Cemetery and a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating.
