Joel Avalos Cañas

Joel Avalos Cañas passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 at his home in Cozad at the age of 68. Joel was born November 17, 1954 at Big Spring, Texas to Joe and Rosario Avalos Cañas. He married Cheryl Parks in 1979. They shared 35 years of marriage, before divorcing in 2014, and were blessed with 3 children, Christina, Katrina and Matthew. Joel worked at ADM Alliance Nutrition in Cozad for over 30 years and then with Ag West Feed & Supply at Willow Island. He never fully retired, keeping busy with small jobs here and there. Joel was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eleazar Cañas; sisters, Alicia Tucker and Lily Sardeson. Survivors include his children, Christina (Ryan) Wagener of CO, Katrina (Robert) Harbour of OH and Matthew Cañas of Cozad; grandchildren; Skylar, Ravyn and Luna Wagener, Jadyn Cañas and Nile Harbour; brothers, Joe (Mary) Cañas of Cozad, Tony (Kayleen) Cañas of Cozad, Nick (Nancy) Cañas of Cozad; sisters, Lisa (JR) Lopez of TX, Angie (Oscar) Orellano of Cozad; numerous nieces and nephews; and closest cousin, Baldemar Lopez.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Joel’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no service.
